Ohana means Family and what better way to bring families together than food. The restaurant that I am talking about is 'Ohana at Disney Polynesian Village Resort and Spa. I have eaten there for both breakfast and dinner, and I am going to review both of them.
Breakfast runs from 7:30am-12pm. The meal is a character meal, which means that Disney characters will come to your table and you will be able to meet them. When I went, there were four characters. The four characters were Lilo, Stitch, Pluto, and Mickey. Mickey and Pluto are both in Hawaiian theme clothing. The food served here is family style. Which means that the food is brought to you on a big tray and from there you grab (using manners of course) and place the food on your plate and enjoy it. The great thing about this is that it is all you care to eat. Just ask your waiter or waitress to bring you the stuff that you enjoyed/ The breakfast is pretty simple; eggs, bacon, sausage, stitch shaped waffles. During the breakfast hours, one of the good things is that they do offer a little bit more to do with the kids. They usually have coconut races where they have kids get up from the table and push coconuts with brooms (kids start practicing). It is an excellent way for them to burn some energy before you head into the parks. The price for breakfast is Adults 10+ $40.47 per person and Children 3-9 it is $24.50. If you want to eat here, my recommendation is that you book your table 180 days in advance. If you are on the Disney Dining plan, they do accept it only for the table service meals. Dinner is almost the same thing as breakfast, but there are a few differences. The main difference is that there isn't any character during the dinner service. Dinner service runs from 3:30pm – 10:00pm. The food is also different. The food served here is also family style. During dinner service, you will be given a mix of green salad with a Lilikoi dressing to start with some 'Ohana Pineapple-Coconut bread (which is fantastic, highly recommend!). Once you finish the salad, they bring you out some appetizers. The appetizers include teriyaki noodles, honey coriander wings, pork dumplings, tossed in a garlic ginger sauce, and stir-fried vegetables. The main dishes come in the form of skewers. There are a sweet n sour chicken, Szechuan sirloin steak and a spicy grilled peel n eat shrimp. To finish off the meal, you end with the 'Ohana Bread Pudding à la mode topped with caramel sauce and bananas. If you manage to get a reservation for dinner around the firework time also the host or hostess for firework viewing, it is not always guaranteed that you will get it, but it never hurts to ask. Dinner service is $55.38 for adults 10+ and children 3-9 $30.89. Just like breakfast, it is also recommended that you reserve your table 180 days in advance. Overall both meals were excellent. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere was excellent, but the thing that needs to be improved is the speed of service. For dinner, I went at 9:15 pm and got a firework viewing table, but the time the skewers came to the table it was towards the end of it. If you manage to get a reservation I recommend it 100% you and your Family will enjoy it, and you will get a great meal, but be prepared to be stuffed at the end of the meal. I know I was! Demogorgon, Dracula, Wolfman, Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, the Creature of the Black Lagoon, the Mummy and many more all come together beginning on September 6th and will continue to be there until November 2nd on select nights. You might be asking yourself where are all these people heading? They are heading to Universal Orlando Resort Halloween Horror Night (HHN).
This year is the 29th year for Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. The dates for Halloween Horror Nights are September: 6,7,8,12,13,14,15,18,19,20,21,22,25,26,27,28,29 October: 2,3,4,5,6,9,10,11,12,13,17,18,19,20,23,24,25,26,27,29,30,31 November: 1,2 HHN is a special ticketed event which means that you have to purchase a sperate ticket for you to partake in this event. The ticket prices for this is $81.99 per person. If you purchase your tickets between now and June 5th, 2019 you buy one and get the 2nd night for free Sundays- Fridays. This event isn’t recommended for anyone who is under the age of 13 or is easily scared. Costumes and masks are not permitted during the event. The event starts at 7 pm, but I recommend getting there at about 6-6: 15 pm. The reason why I say that is because they have a little show at the start of the night. If you are inside the park, they will escort you to certain zones before the event starts so that you do not have to exit the park. What HHN is an exclusive event that has select rides as well as haunted “houses” and scare zones; last year they had ten houses and five scare zones. The houses were Stranger Things, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Poltergeist, Trick ‘r Treat, Blumhouse and the First Purge, Dead Exposure: Patient Zero, Slaughter Sinema, Carnival Graveyard: Rust in Pieces, ScaryTales: Deadly Ever After, and Seeds of Extinction. The scare zones were Revenge of Chucky, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, The Harvest, Twisted Tradition, and Vamp 85: New Year’s Eve. For you to do all of the houses and scare zones, I recommend getting the Express Pass. HHN is an extra cost that you purchase, and it will reduce your wait time. The express pass can be used on some of the attractions as well. While some of the rides are open during HHN, I recommend experiencing them before the start of HHN or once you completed the houses. There are some dining location is open during that time. There is also exclusive eats and treats during the event as well. There is a soda cup that you could purchase that has unlimited refills throughout the night I recommend that you pick one up. If you buy your ticket during the buy one get one I would space a few things out. For example, try and do all the houses on the first day then go back on the 2nd day and do all the houses that you enjoyed. In pasts years that I went the nights in September and October were still warm outside, so I recommend wearing something comfortable throughout the whole night. If you love to be scared or want that rush of not knowing what’s going to happen next, I recommend going to Universal Halloween Horror Nights. Trick-or-treat throughout the park. They do give out candy bags where you could go to a different location and fill them with candy. If you bring your bag, they will fill it up for you. If you have a food allergen, they do offer allergy-friendly alternatives. The way that you would find the candy location is by looking for a big orange sign that says “Treats.” If you have an allergen, they will often give you a different color bag initially, and once you get to the treat location, then they will provide you with a token which you can exchange it at the allergy-friendly location. There are food locations throughout the park both quick service and table service. For table service restaurants it is recommended that you book at least 180 days in advance by calling 407-939-1872. If you are attending the event, they will give you a wristband upon entering. This wristband will let the Cast Members know that you are allowed to stay in the park after the park has closed for regular guests. Every event has a different color wristband so you will not be able to attend another one without purchasing another one. If you are inside the park before 7 pm, they will start distributing wristbands starting at 4 pm, but remember the event doesn’t officially start till 7 pm. During the event, they do offer exclusive merchandise as well as exclusive popcorn buckets. You can only get that during the events. They also provide Disney photo pass for free with exclusive event backgrounds and unique shots. In my opinion, is it worth it? Yes! You have to remember that if you are going to wear a costume know it will be a little warm. Also during the event, if rather ride the lines will be shorter, but I recommend doing everything else like getting the treats and watching the show.
